Murray Irrigation's PIIOP project is a once-in-a-generation
opportunity to modernise our irrigation infrastructure and supply
system for the benefit of all our irrigation customers and to
provide improved water efficiency and productivity for our
customers' farm businesses.
The funding agreement between the Commonwealth Government and
Murray Irrigation was signed on 20 September 2012 to undertake the
- Upgrade water management and measurement systems comprising the
upgrade of our channel regulator and offtake system, and our outlet
- System reconfigurations to optimise parts of our channel
- System retirements optimise parts of our channel network and to
assist landholders to transition from irrigation farming to stock
& domestic farming.
The initial works commenced in May 2013 and focussed on
installing offtakes and outlets along 159km of main channel

- the Berrigan Main Canal to the Billabong Canal offtake.
Approximately 46 offtake structures and 120 metered outlets held
by 111 customers were installed.
Murray Irrigation's Yallakool system (within Division 16) was
chosen as the Pilot for our Standard Level of Service (SLOS)
rollout, while Divisions 3 and 8 (Finley and Blighty) are being
converted to our High Level of Service (HLOS).
To support the PIIOP project, Murray Irrigation and Rubicon
Water entered into a multi-million dollar partnership to
upgrade irrigation supply infrastructure throughout the local
region. The contract was officially signed on 27 September
The contract is primarily for the supply, installation and
commissioning of Rubicon products and network control systems which
are a key part of the upgrade to our irrigation system occurring
under PIIOP. The contract for the supply of Rubicon's hardware and
software will enable remote and automated control of Murray
Irrigation's supply system.
To further support delivery of the PIIOP project, Murray
Irrigation and Ertech Pty Ltd entered into a contract during
2013 for the provision of WHS site supervision services, which

Murray Irrigation's PIIOP project has received funding of
$169.2 million from the Australian Government's Private Irrigation
Infrastructure Operators Program (PIIOP) in NSW.
The PIIOP team is based next to the Murray Irrigation head
office at 443 Charlotte Street, Deniliquin. This follows the
construction of a new temporary building in September 2015. This
new contemporary, open-plan project office houses our entire PIIOP
project team of around 30 staff.
The core purpose of the move was to consolidate the teams within
Murray Irrigation. The new cost effective set-up better integrates
PIIOP with the mainstream operations of Murray Irrigation, as all
departments work together to ensure the efficient rollout of the
