As part of Murray Irrigation's PIIOP project, the company is
implementing a Sub-System Retirement (SSR) project.
This project involves the voluntary strategic retirement of
landholdings from Murray Irrigation's area of operations and
disconnection from related channel delivery system
The SSR project involves 30 landholdings, broadly located south
and west of Moulamein.
Funding is provided to enable the conversion to dryland farming
for these landholdings and the installation of an alternate source
of stock and domestic water supply.
Total length of channel to be decommissioned is in excess of
35km, with onsite channel decommissioning works expected
to be completed in October 2016.
Participation in the project is voluntary for landholders.
As part of the project, landholders transfer their water
entitlements to the Commonwealth. They also terminate their
delivery entitlements and associated shares in Murray
The SSR project is part of PIIOP Round 2. Murray Irrigation
successfully received funding for the PIIOP Round 2 project in
