Work continues on our preventative maintenance and weed strategy including:
In areas closed for winter, the following activities are completed.
1. Preventative inspections
When channels are drained, assets are inspected to determine their condition and plan work required for next time the channel is drained.
Urgent repairs identified are undertaken immediately.
2. Mechanical and civil assets
Offtake and regulator structures are repaired and a coating to protect and extend the life of the concrete is applied.
Batter protection is checked and extended to stop erosion around structures.
Mechanical assets, such as gates, are serviced, repaired, and components replaced to prolong their life.
3. Weeds and channel integrity
Channel efficiency is maintained by removing weeds and rebuilding banks which are badly eroded or have inadequate freeboard.
