Transition to Winter Operations
Aligned with the Season Operating Plan the transition from Regular Operation to Winter Operations has commenced.
The aim of Winter Operations period, from May to August, is to complete the winter maintenance program on time and on budget while maximising customers access to water delivery.
Water Delivery - Guaranteed Dates
Murray Irrigation expects to release the water delivery guaranteed dates by the first week of May for all customers in both the 2025 maintenance and non-maintenance areas.
After the guaranteed delivery date, access to water delivery, including stock and domestic water, is opportunistic and cannot be guaranteed.
Preparing for Winter Works
In preparation for the winter maintenance, customers will see an increase in vehicle and heavy machinery on and around landholdings, channels, and bridges. This can include, material delivery, grading of tracks and building silt traps, as an example.
As safety is the main priority customers are requested to be vigilant with this increased activity on roads and channel banks.
Stock & Domestic reminder – fill dams now
Water may not be available over winter for stock and domestic supplies because:
1. The outlet is in an area scheduled for maintenance, or
2. levels in the channel section may not be high enough to allow water delivery.
Please fill dams now to ensure adequate water supplies through until mid-August.
Other maintenance works during winter
Throughout the period of Winter Operations, urgent repairs are needed in areas not scheduled to be drained for maintenance.
In 2025 the Mulwala Main Canal will be drained, to enable inspections of key regulators, as part of a follow up on last year’s urgent repairs.
Customers affected by any non-maintenance area works will be notified approximately two weeks before maintenance works commence.
