Operational Update

End of 2023-24 Season Trade and your water allocation account 

Customers are reminded to balance their accounts prior to the season closure at 5.00pm Tuesday 25 June. An email was sent to all customers last week with their current balances to assist in this process. 

To view closure dates, information about carryover, WEX unsold water, Barmah Choke trade arrangements and the re-opening of the Customer Portal and WEX visit our website.

Water Exchange closure 21 June 2024 - Unsold water

The Water Exchange (WEX) closes this Friday 21 June.

This means any unsold water remaining on the WEX at this time is returned to relevant customer accounts in accordance with the Water Exchange Terms and Conditions. 

You can then decide how to manage any megalitres to avoid forfeiture. 

Options include: 

  • Carryover
  • External transfers out of Murray Irrigation to river licences or other valleys, or 
  • Internal transfers.

WEX Terms and Conditions

Releasing water into the drainage system 

Customers are reminded to seek approval before discharging water into Murray Irrigation’s drainage system. 

Discharge must be via a drainage inlet and is subject to approval after completion of an application form, which can be downloaded below.

Winter Works progress report 

Murray Irrigation's Winter maintenance program is currently on schedule. 

As of yesterday, 54% of the 3763 work orders for Winter Works have been completed.

Irrigation Insights Conference - Moama 

Mark your calendar for Wednesday 24 and Thursday 25 July for the Irrigation Farmers Networks' Irrigation Insights 2024 conference.

The goal of this event, which is being held at Moama's Rich River Golf Club Resort, is to equip farmers and industry professionals with the knowledge needed to foster sustainable and profitable irrigated farm systems.

The activities kick off on Wednesday 24 July with the Gala Dinner celebrating 25 years of irrigated RD&E, followed by the conference on 25 July.

Graduate Agronomy Program - Elders

Applications are now open for the Elders Graduate Agronomy Program.

This two-year entry level program is specifically designed to launch your career as an agronomist.

Within the program, participants will be exposed to both horticulture and broadacre areas to expand your knowledge of each, as well as gain a broad understanding of Elders and the agricultural industry.

To be eligible for entry into the Graduate Agronomy Program, participants need to:


  • Have graduated with a relevant university degree within the last three years.
  • Be willing to relocate for program rotations across Australia
  • Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, or Australian permanent resident – please note that temporary visa holders are not eligible for this program.
