Operational Update

Your Water Allocation Account

To assist you in managing your account, end of season transfers and trade, all customers have been sent an email outlining their individual water allocation account status.

Within the email, a table shows your water entitlements, available carryover capacity, allocation remaining, potential forfeit, and percentage carryover.

Information on the Carryover Rule, how to balance your account/s, season closure and reopening along with the Barmah Choke trade opportunity are also provided in the one place.

Using the Water Exchange (WEX)

Buying and selling on the WEX can be confusing if you don’t use it frequently. Here are a few tips to help you when using the Exchange:

WEX user tips for buying:

  • Clicking the ‘Commit to buy’ forms a legally binding contract.
  • Payment is required three business days after the day of purchase.
  • Invoices are sent on the business day following the day of purchase.

WEX user tips for selling:

  • Sell offers that are matched form a legally binding contract.
  • When a successful contract is formed the seller will be called to check their bank details if they have not been confirmed within the last year.
  • Following payment by the buyer, seller payments are made weekly on a Wednesday to the sellers confirmed bank account.
  • A sales invoice email with details of the proceeds paid will be sent by Friday.
  • If a parcel is sold in smaller lots, proceeds may be paid in separate payments over several weeks.

The table below outlines when key activities will occur when buying and selling on the WEX:

If you’re unfamiliar with the WEX, how to list water for sale, how to purchase, or just want a hand – please call us!

Non-maintenance areas - access to water during Winter

You can still access water delivery over winter if you are not in a maintenance area.

Key points for customers in non-maintenance areas:

  • Channels in non-maintenance areas supplied by the Mulwala Canal will not be refilled until the Canal re-opens for next season.
  • You can continue to order water during winter in non-maintenance areas, although delivery is not guaranteed.
  • If you place orders post the guaranteed date, the water ordering system will offer a four-day notice period for all new orders.
