MIL Chair Phil Snowden and CEO Ron McCalman were in Canberra last week attending the National Irrigators' Council's Annual General Meeting (Phil also sits on the Board of the national peak body).
Agenda items for the AGM included an address by Shadow Minister for Water and Emergency Management, Senator Perin Davey.
General discussion centred around the challenges the irrigation industry is grappling with, including the impact of water buybacks, the draft National Water Agreement and proposed water market reforms.
As part of the two-day itinerary, Ron also participated in discussions with fellow southern basin Irrigation Infrastructure Operators, Murrumbidgee Irrigation and Coleambally Irrigation. These discussions also incorporated a meeting with Minister Plibersek’s key water advisor.
Murray Irrigation will be hosting our 2024 Annual General Meeting on Wednesday 27 November at 10.00am.
Similar to last year, shareholders will be able to attend either in person or via live webcast.
For those attending in person, the meeting will be held at the Deniliquin RSL, with registrations opening at 9.30am.
More details, including notice of meeting, agenda, resolutions and proxy forms, will be distributed to shareholders in early November.

Join RGA Landcare
tomorrow 16 October for a guided tour of ancient remnant vegetation sites, mature direct seeding sites, a private wetland, and LLS seed collection areas.
Participants will learn about native revegetation and vegetation conservation opportunities.
Local landholders Michael Pisasale, Rob Wettenhall and Graeme Allitt will showcase their conservation areas and share what they have learned over the years about the benefits, management realities and opportunities.
This is a free event, with morning tea and lunch provided.

In this free online forum being held on Thursday 31 October, Rabobank analyst Vitor Pistoia will provide commentary on grain market drivers and trends, as the Australian harvest gets into full swing.
There will also be discussion on the global grain market and price outlook in the context of shifting world geo-politics and crop status.
